Robots and Archaeology
We continue to plan and prepare for future field seasons. In addition to archaeological exploration, we are have initiated a number of projects that will optimize research and dissemination of information.
We believe in the marriage of traditional archaeological research methods with new methods of exploration and information retrieval. The extensive looting damage at Hibeh has resulted in potentially dangerous and unstable environments. In order to assess the damage, currently, we are developing remote operated robots that can explore the looted contexts.
The initial stages of this project involved the participation of undergraduate and graduate students at Ryerson University who designed and built some great prototypes. Some robots in action here:
